She has grabbed the attention of many book lovers to read her compelling and riveting novels. S.E. Hinton. Susan Eloise Hinton, better known by her pen name S.E. Hinton, was born in Oklahoma in 1948 and educated at the University of Tulsa. Her first novel, The Outsiders, was published when she was still a teenager. This first book was a runaway success, originally and still a best seller. The Outsiders and Rumble Fish were both adapted to S. E. Hinton debuted in 1967. Her debut book is called The Outsiders.

I’ve never read an SE Hinton book before; I’ll admit that until I read the introduction of The Outsiders that I didn’t even realise that Hinton was female. I assumed that a book about teenage boys and gang culture was written by a male writer. This was the first of many shocks; good shocks but ones that made me realise that I had a prejudice in me that I wasn’t aware of. Another surprise is that a book of such high acclaim could be written by someone so young. S. E. Hinton According to Wikipedia, The Outsiders is a coming-of-age novel by S. E. Hinton, first published in 1967 by Viking Press.
